
The founder of the group and our Late chairman Mr. Akberali Alibhai Africawala
came to the then East Pakistan (present Bangladesh) from Africa. He was
originally from Gujrat, India.
1952: The Company started its business in Bangladesh.
1960: The hand-rolling mill (manual) was running with a small capacity.
1985: Old machinery was dismantled and fully automatic mill machinery was
imported from U.K. which enhanced our production capacity from 15,000m tones to
60,000m tones per annum.
1997: We were a regular customer of CHITTAGONG STEEL MILLS. Following its
shut-down/lay-off, we started our Continuous Billets Casting Plant in the name
of Meghna Engineering Works Limited (MEW) with a production capacity of 60,000m
tones per annum. Its production capacity will be increased to 120,000m tones per
annum after completing its on-going BMRE program. MEW feeds our BSRM.
2004: Massive BMRE program was taken and 20 TPH Re-heating furnace, 3
Hi-roughing Mill, High-speed Flyshare and Twin channel to increase production
capacity to 120,000m tones per annum.
